LED Light Therapy. Skincare and Beyond

What is LED Light Therapy and why is it included with my Cosmetic Acupuncture Treatments?

The short answer is that LED Light Therapy enhances the results of your cosmetic acupuncture.

Research has shown that light therapy may help:

  • Smooth skin texture

  • Improve skin firmness

  • Increase lymphatic system activity

  • Restore skin’s natural cellular activity

  • Reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and superficial hyperpigmentation

And now you’re wondering…. how?

LED Light Therapy provides safe, non-invasive low-level light at specific wavelengths.

The red wavelength, 640 nm, has been shown to help improve the function of skin cells. It helps damaged skin cells heal more efficiently and also helps new skin cells generate faster.

(If you would like to see the research on LED light for skin function and wrinkle reduction, check out these studies: one, two, three, four, five.)

When a skin cell is damaged, a common part of the “healing cascade” response is to send protein to the damaged area, to restructure the cell.

In the case of skin, this includes collagen. So healing means increased collagen, which can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Cosmetic acupuncture’s goal is to cause tiny micro-traumas in the skin, so that they body then “fills in” the area with collagen fibers as it heals the skin.

Adding the light therapy on top of cosmetic acupuncture can help this process of collagen building happen faster and more efficiently, for even better results.

LED Light therapy is also excellent to use on its own. Even without “microtraumas” in the skin, the light therapy still enhances skin cell function and collagen production.

Outside of the graceful ageing realm, LED Light Therapy is also used a natural health therapy to increase circulation, decrease inflammation, ease muscle and joint pain, and can even improve egg and sperm quality for those looking to support conception. Cool, right!
